If You Give a Mom a Moment…

Last night I had a mom moment.

It was one of those moments where you sense time fleeting and want to gather it up and bottle it – like a kid collecting fireflies in a jar to savor the whimsy of a warm summer night.

So I did it. I scooped up my sleeping toddler from his crib. I soaked in his scent. I smooshed my face into his soft, crazy, lavender bath scented hair.
That’s where the magic ended.
He woke up. He started crying. He was discombobulated. If he could talk he probably would have said, “What the heck mom?! I was in the perfect position, just got to the good part of my dream, and am just working up the perfect amount of drool to top it all off!”
He wouldn’t be calmed. So into mom and dads bed he went. Finally, things were settled. We were snugly and dreamy.

That’s when the pee came.

All over the bed. Recommence the crying! Change the sheets! Change the diaper! Change the jammys! Back to crib! Apologize to hubby for having a mom moment when he has to get up early for work the next day!

Now the clock shows that in just an hour and a half, it will be time to get up again with baby for a nighttime feeding. When I will probably have another mom moment.

Sigh.
If you give a mom a moment, she’s gonna need extra coffee the next morning.
But these moments add up. They are the fireflies of whimsy in my mom jar of memories. So they are worth it. Pee messes and all.
Maybe I’ll have another one tonight? I better check with hubby first.
