Are any other moms out there a baby foot freak like me? Seriously, I must have a few hundred foot pictures on my iphone, and regularly search Pinterest for “foot crafts”. It’s kind of a problem…one I plan on INDULGING!
That’s why on this most glorious Saturday I planned a special day of FOOT CRAFTING with my mom and the kiddos! Think of it… an ENTIRE DAY devoted to baby feet! I even wrote it in my planner with a “smiley face”! (For extra fun, we threw in the hands too!)
So here’s what we did and how it went. I plan to tweak it and try it a variety of different ways! Try it (and tweak it) for yourself! After all, one can never have too many foot crafts lying around.
(Dear my kids of the future: take anything you want. Downsize granny-ish me. But DO NOT take my foot crafts. Leave a mom her baby feet is all that I ask. Oh, and also, don’t let me have blue hair!)
LET THE BABY FOOT FRENZY BEGIN!

Instructions for how we made our “Salt Dough” Hand & Foot Keepsakes:
- GATHER YOUR SUPPLIES
- Flour
- Salt
- Warm Water
- Favorite Paint
- Paint Brushes
- Large Mixing Bowl
- Parchment Paper
- Baking Sheets
- Pie Pans
2. PREPARE THE SALT DOUGH
- Measure and combine 1 cup flour, 1 cup salt, and 1 cup WARM water (I doubled the recipe, which I’m sure could have probably made 4 molds. Ours were THICK, which is one thing I plan to change!)
- Mix the dough until it is nice and sticky and pliable with no large flour chunks.
3. PREPARE THE DOUGH FORMS
- Line Pie Pans with Parchment Paper
- Separate the dough into the pie pans
- Pat down the dough until it is even and smooth (I have some work to do on my smoothness factor… but I was trying to hurry while baby was sleeping!)
- Place a piece of parchment paper on top of the dough (over the pie pans)
- Flip the parchment paper with the dough onto the baking sheets
- Peel back the parchment paper
4. IMPRINT HANDS AND FEET INTO THE DOUGH
- Grab your munchkins (wipe their feet down & pat dry if needed)
- Firmly press their hands and feet (however you choose) into the dough. (Be careful not to go to deep into the dough – my sons foot went all the way through the dough and I had to work to smoosh it back together.)
5. BAKE DOUGH MOLDS
- Heat oven to 200 Degrees
- Bake for about 3 hours (until the dough is very firm and dry feeling – turn over to bake opposite side if needed. Continue to check the dough throughout the time to make any necessary changes.)

6. COOL THE MOLDS ON COOKIE SHEETS
7. PAINT
Get creative! Paint your feet/hands however you wish! I opted for a more natural look so used “Plaster” and “Peach” colors, and also rubbed some of the paint off to give it a worn look. I plan to experiment with other variations!
8. ENJOY!
Display your feet proudly for the world to see! Enjoy those baby feet and hands whenever your little, foot freak, heart desires!
Oh those chunky, chubby, silly, little feet. I just can’t get enough of them! We had a super fun day making these! I look forward to perfecting the process and making more. I hope you enjoy as well!
Are you a baby foot freak too? What’s your favorite foot craft to treasure those tiny toes?
