1. I SHIFTED MY PARADIGM, AND REDEFINED WORTH

“Worth” is a funny thing. For some things worth is lasting and unchanging, possibly even increasing in value; for others it is transitory. As I’ve been on my “stay at home mom” journey with my 2 under 2 beauties, I’ve come to view worth differently in how I apply it to the things in my life. People are worth more, things are worth less. Time and memories are worth more, titles and meetings are worth less. My paradigm has shifted.

This shift has helped us as a one income family. I don’t mind things I would have frowned upon before, and I’m more easily satisfied with simple pleasures and little luxuries. Having this new, changing, growing mentality allows me to have and do things I want to, while still maintaining our one income budget!

WITH THAT SAID, I DETERMINED I WAS OK WITH “USED” ITEMS. I GAVE THEM THE WORTH THEY DESERVED!

2. I EVALUATED WHAT I HAD, AND DETERMINED IT’S WORTH

We are always accumulating “stuff”, and that means there are things lying around we don’t actually need or use or have outgrown. As sentimental as I am about my babies things (because every thread has a special little baby memory attached to it, am I right?!), I decided to LET GO!

Look around the house, evaluate what is really being unused and is just taking up space. Gather it up, and give it new worth!

THESE UNUSED THINGS ARE WORTH MONEY OR TRADE TO SOMEONE, WHICH MEANS THEY ARE WORTH MONEY OR TRADE TO ME!

3. I CONNECTED TO PEOPLE AND PLACES THAT WOULD PLACE WORTH ON MY ITEMS

I joined new groups on Facebook and social media: “Baby Buy, Sell, Trade”, “Mom Swap”, “All things Baby” “Yard Sale” type of groups. (Check on Facebook for your area – there are tons of groups out there like this!)

I found local baby and adult resale exchange/trade boutiques. (Look in your area for local stores like this!)

4. I DETERMINED THE WORTH OF MY TIME & EFFORT

Let’s be honest – what things sometimes don’t cost in dollars, they will cost us in time and effort.

Our time and energy are valuable (WORTH something!). I had to determine if what I was willing to give was worth what I would get in exchange.

(How much time will I spend on social media communication for this? How much driving will it take? How many times am I willing to load and unload 2 under 2? How far am I willing to drive? How many boutique exchanges am I willing to visit?)

ONCE I HAD DETERMINED THOSE BOUNDARIES, I WAS READY TO TRADE IT UP!

5. I TRADED, AND GOT AND GAVE NEW WORTH FOR GENTLY LOVED ITEMS!

I love the ability we have to be fluid with our possessions and resources, and how with just a little bit of paradigm shifting, I am able to maintain the balance of things I want on a one income budget! Annnndddd… have more room for possible splurging on fun experiences later!

Hmmmm… now what else do I have, and WHAT’S IT WORTH?!
