DIY Upcycle: Vintage Mattress Coils into a Photo Board

I. Love. Antiques! I love the hunt. I love the scent of mustiness and decades-old dust. I love the coffee in my hand as I search for treasure. I love imagining the people and places these old items have been a part of and envisioning the story they tell. AND I love using these things in new ways!

I’ve been on the hunt for mattress coils ever since I saw a vendor use a set to hang as a chandelier with Edison Bulb lights poking through them last fall. And FINALLY, two weekends ago at a local vintage market (Junk In the Trunk – you gotta check it out if it’s near you! http://junkinthetrunkvintagemarket.com) I found the perfect size set for me! A small set for a small space! It was probably a crib mattress at one point… which kind of makes it even more magical.

So now that I had my very own vintage coils… I got to be creative and make something to make me smile every time I pass by it (and those are the best type of creations in my opinion!)

So, for this project I decided to go with a VINTAGE MATTRESS COIL  TWINKLY PHOTO BOARD!

Here’s What You Need!

Here’s What You Do!

  1. Hang the coils with screws/anchors
  2. Thread the rice lights through the coils (leave the power box in an easy to reach place for easy “on”, “off”)
  3. Pin your embellishments

I love the way it glows at night – it makes for a great soft light! This makes me happy whenever I look at it, and because it’s so easy I plan to change it up throughout the year adding seasonal details, different photos, and other inspirations!

You could also use this in other ways such as a vision board, dream board, bulletin board, recipe holder, etc. Such a fun and simple way to be creative with things you love!

ENJOY!
