I actually took this picture when I was walking to the beach in Carlsbad, CA. I just love hydrangeas, don’t you? Not pictured is the fact that there were about 8 of these HUGE hydrangea bushes in the same yard. A magical, dreamy, beach house literally surrounded with hydrangeas. Sigh. Something this Arizona girl wishes could be hers. Cactuses are nice too though, right?
Today I saw this phrase, (please forgive me for not knowing who the author is – if I am able to find the author, I will give mention!) “A flower does not think of competing to the flower next to it. It just blooms.” I thought back to the hydrangea house. All those beautiful flowers, just doing their thing, creating such beauty.
What if we did that as mothers? No competing. Just blooming.
It’s not that we mean to… we just have a certain method that we adopt as our own, think is best, and may even have some facts and figures behind it backing us up. I’m guilty myself.
This thing called mothering – it’s hard. It takes everything you’ve got… and more. Some of us have more resources. Some of us have more help. Some of us have more coffee!
In the end what matters is the blooming. We are each becoming a type of mother every day we hold the title. Some days it looks different from others. As we love and nurture our children in the best way we know how, we bloom. Our children bloom. Something beautiful comes forth that didn’t exist before. And that’s the joy of being a mother.
Today, each of us as moms will face different challenges. It’s hard enough without the addition of differing opinions. Let’s stop competing. Let’s enjoy the blossoming. Do your thing the best you know how to do it. Learn and grow. Add resources as you find them. Be a resource when you can.
To moms everywhere – I’m sorry for when I’ve competed. I’d rather help you blossom as I blossom too.
Who you are and what you do is beautiful, mommas. I’m happy to share a garden with you.
Now, let’s BLOOM!
